Ancient Egypt Field Trip

The entire 6th grade class will be traveling to Albany to experience two great presentations relating to our study of Ancient Egypt. Students will visit the Albany Institute of History and Art to participate in their “Ancient Egypt Art & Culture” program. The Albany Institute’s collection of art and artifacts from ancient Egypt and its two mummies provide students with an opportunity to learn about ancient Egypt hieroglyphs and symbols; funerary object, religious practices; and culture and customs of daily life. They will also visit the Albany Visitors Center to experience their “Ancient Egypt Stars of the Pharaoh” program at the Henry Hudson Planetarium. This program explores the Ancient Egyptian obsession with astronomy and its influence on their religion, government, and daily life.

Some things to remember:

  • The trip is Friday, December 7th

  • It will last nearly the entire school day, so students won’t have their regular classes

  • Everyone must bring a lunch!

  • Permission slips and money due by Friday, November 30th

We are looking forward to an awesome trip!

Character Day

Each year all MS students and teachers celebrate character day at the end of October. Sixth graders select a person from World History!

  • Students will come to school that day dressed as their character

  • Students will become this person for one minute and share information about this person

  • Oral reports are to be memorized

  • You should not be spending money on your costume so do not plan on renting an ornate outfit. Creativity counts a great deal, so you should look around your house to determine what you can use for a costume before you sign up!

September Team Meeting

This Friday, we will have our team meeting for September.

We will all get together during 2nd half of lunch to discuss the first month of middle school and, of course, have our monthly prize drawings.

If any teachers have given you tickets over the past month, you can place them in one of five boxes. At our meeting, each teacher will draw a ticket from a box, and whoever’s name is on it will win that teacher’s monthly prize.

See you there.
